Let's discover what the Bible is all about
Why a website?
The Purpose
I desire to update my friends and family on my seminary education and my growing knowledge in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
On this website, you can expect to find content relating to Biblical exposition and the practical application of the Scriptures. Together, we will investigate the text, discover the person of Jesus Christ, and better understand our relationship with God.
This page is designed to jump-start your reading and listening experience, so you can better engage our other articles and podcasts.
The Christian Motivation
What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the core of the Christian faith and rests at the center of my motivation to attend seminary.
Without contemplating the Gospel, you cannot possess a relationship with God.
I would consider these podcasts in the 'must-listen' category for anyone:
A Biblical Mandate for Presentation
and What is Biblical Exposition?
Listen...
Essentially, Biblical exposition is 'cutting it straight' with the Scriptures. The Bible is God's message to mankind, so we cannot 'read into' the text to form our conclusions. Instead, we may only understand the Scriptures by discovering the intent of the original authors. We ask "What did they desire to say?" Not, "What do I think it means?"
This technique is a full explanation of the Scriptures and utilizes a scriptural, historical, grammatical, and linguistical approach to the text. This assures the interpretative outcome remains congruent with God's original intent.
Below, I provide four reasons why the we must read the Scriptures with this technique:
- “Faith Comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Rom [10:17]). Without biblical preaching no one will hear the good news and no one will believe. Paul later writes in Romans, “How will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? (Rom [10:14]-15).
- Exposition is the very character of Jesus Christ. We read in John [1:18], "No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him." Only Jesus Christ has seen God. Moreover, His person, work and word completely explain Him.
- Jesus Christ and His apostles relied on biblical exposition. Christ used the Scriptures to reveal His person and fully explain God. We read in Luke 24:27, "Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures."Only Christ's exposition opened the eyes of the disciples to His purpose (Luke [24:45]). The apostle Paul followed this same technique, declaring, "I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God (Acts [20:27])." Biblical exposition depends on explaining the entirety of Scriptures, the very Word of God, and not the opinions of men.
- Biblical Exposition saves everyone from useless and dangerous spiritual mumbo jumbo. You are not expected to build a house from the contractor’s opinions, nor should you build your faith on the ideas of men. Instead, we must all seek to acquire the essential building blocks necessary to understand the Bible. Then, we will have the tools necessary to comprehend the Scriptures on your own. And, allow the Bible to explain itself.
What is the...
"So What?!" Series
In my announcement to attend seminary, I have received a variety of responses from indifference to excitement and hostility. I designed the "So What?!" Series to address the many questions and concerns in regards to my decision to attend seminary. This series intends to launch this website and lay the foundation for my future online ministry.
I hope to answer the "So What?" question or, more frankly, "Who cares?" Why is preaching relevant? What is the Bible good for? And why do I want to devote my life to a cause viewed as outdated and arcane to the modern world?
I will address this question in a four part article series by dissecting the quote:
"The sermon defines the pulpit, the pulpit leads the church, and the church influences the nation."
Alongside theses investigative articles, will be a podcast series called "So What?!" We will answer the basics of the faith and expound on Biblical topics usually withheld from polite company.
Join us as we ask "So What?" in hopes to discover the truth of the Scriptures, the importance of Biblical preaching, and the intimate connection between preaching and society.
